Northwest Lower Mainland Regional Skills Canada Competition 2016

Congratulations to all the participants in the Northwest Lower Mainland Regional Skills Canada competitions held last Friday at Eric Hamber. Hamber hosted over 50 students from across the district.

Hamber hosted four Worldskills 2017 qualifying competitions in Baking, Cooking, Fashion Technology and Graphics Design.

In Baking – Clarissa R. was GOLDEN – producing perfect cream puffs and other delectable baked goods

In Cooking – Catherine W. edged out her fellow Hamber competitors and Ace It students from across the district in a tight race and gained a Bronze medal

In Fashion Technology – Karen C. won Bronze, Yoyo T. won Silver and Kimberly B. WON GOLD achieving 96% – setting a new record of achievement in Fashion Technology since Hamber students have been participating in this event at the regional, provincial and national levels in the last 20 years.

The GOLD medal winners will advance to the Provincial Skills Competitions 2016 on April 13, 2016 at the Tradex, in Abbotsford. The Provincial Gold medal winners will then be advancing to the Nationals in Moncton, NB in June.

Thank you to all the hard work and time the competitors put in to achieve their personal best.

How do I install Microsoft Office on my Microsoft Windows, Mac OSX, iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch personally owned devices?

Step 1

On a Windows or Mac computer or an iPhone, iPad, or Android, enter https://login.microsoftonline.com into your computers Internet browser and login with your VSB user-id and password when prompted. Screens shown here represent the experience on a Windows computer.

Step 2

Enter your VSB-userid (your VSB-userid is your student number)

Example: vsb-9999999@vsb.bc.ca

Your VSB password is the same one that you use to access your school computer account.

Step 3

Once logged-in, the following screen should be displayed (example shown is the Windows computer experience, it will vary depending on the device used):

Using Office Apps on iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, and Android

The Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote mobile apps allow creation of documents directly on your mobile device. You can email the documents to yourself or others to further edit them on Windows or Mac computers, or to print them.

Basic eligibility requirements include:

  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • Will graduate by August 31, 2015
  • Has a valid SIN number

Students must demonstrate superior achievement in any of the following areas:

  • Fine Arts (Visual Arts, Dance, Drama, Music)
  • Applied Skills (Business Ed, Tech Ed, Home Ec)
  • Physical Activity (Athletics, Dance, PE)
  • Second Languages
  • Technical and Trades Training
  • Community Service (Volunteer Activity)

Students must have been cumulatively evaluated in the qualifying courses.

Completed applications be submitted to Mr. Grant directly.
